    The album, which was recorded (mostly) live by Baker’s nine-piece band, Archie Baker & The Blue Meanies, features eight distinct tracks that each explore a different feel and blend of soul and blues. The foundations of Carbrook are built largely on the rhythms and grooves of traditional soul music, with a desperately punctual rhythm section and an explosive horn section holding the arrangements together. Baker’s bluesy lead guitar and vocals sit neatly in the centre of the music. His playing shifts between elegant, gentle accompaniment and euphoric, soaring lead, while his vocals benefit from an understated and gravelly tone that is unique to Baker’s style.
